The Intrinsic Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wells Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Tuesday, Intrinsic took a serious blow against Austin College and Career Academy, falling 63-25. While losing is never fun, Intrinsic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 406th, while Austin College and Career Academy is ranked 133rd).
Despite the loss, Intrinsic saw an underclassman step up: America Escalera scored 16 points. Escalera scored a full 64% of Intrinsic's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Aniyah Wiggins, who scored 9 points.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Wells had to settle for a 30-27 loss against Manley on Tuesday. Wells has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Tamyra Davis was Wells' leading scorer, having posted 12 points. Davis also led the team in rebounds with five.
Intrinsic now has a losing record at 1-2-2. As for Wells, they bumped their record down to 1-3-1 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
