Basketball Recap: Mitchell Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Mitchell hadn't done well against Sunlake recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Mitchell Mustangs snuck past the Sunlake Seahawks with a 52-46 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Leading Mitchell to victory were Brianna Coure and Kaylana Little. Coure went 6 for 11 on her way to 18 points, while Little dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most boards Little has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Priya Jacob, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 boards.

Mitchell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

Sunlake's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cherity Powells, who posted 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Powells is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kaycie Hyde, who had 12 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Mitchell pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.1 points per game. As for Sunlake, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Mitchell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 82-23 victory against Patel on the 13th. As for Sunlake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-5 win against Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate on the 13th.
