Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Pompano Beach

While Pompano Beach's win against South Broward wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Golden Tornadoes had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 8-7. The victory was nothing new for the Golden Tornadoes as they're now sitting on three straight.

Reece Ward made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Pompano Beach: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 7-8 otherwise. Ward was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Pompano Beach let Ethan Chodnoff and Lazaro Riba run wild. Chodnoff went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Riba went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Riba a new career-high. Mason Coyne was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Pompano Beach was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.

Pompano Beach's record is now 10-8. As for South Broward, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Pompano Beach will challenge Calvary Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give the Golden Tornadoes their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for South Broward, they will take on Everglades at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
