If the Destin Sharks were feeling good off their 49-18 takedown of the East Hill Christian Eagles last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Destin fell 53-44 to Pensacola Catholic on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Destin of the 40-28 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
Maddie Hammergren was the offensive standout of the matchup as she scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Jenecia Swindell was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds.
Destin's loss was their sixth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-11. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.7 points per game. As for Pensacola Catholic, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Destin will take on Laurel Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pensacola Catholic, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Bayside Academy at 6:15 p.m.
