The Manchester Greyhounds are taking a road trip to take on the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manchester is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.4 runs per game this season.
Manchester will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Glenwood on Saturday. The Greyhounds were the clear victors by a 22-0 margin over the Tigers. The Greyhounds haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Rylie Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bristynn McClanahan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Hayden King was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Lynchburg-Clay fell victim to Westfall and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They fell just short of Westfall by a score of 2-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which Lynchburg-Clay was not able to get on the board.
Manchester pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lynchburg-Clay, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Manchester has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lynchburg-Clay struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Manchester beat Lynchburg-Clay 6-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Greyhounds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
