C1 District 9 recap September 17, 2013
Cozad's Clay Trejo rumbled for the longest rushing play in C1 District 9 this season in his game against Mitchell last week. Trejo ran for 95 yards on the play and finished with 95 on the day as his team bested the Tigers.
Cozad was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Mitchell. Brian Cargill's team came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
Quin Rutt was a beast in the backfield as Minden topped Fillmore Central.
Rutt was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 269 yards on 43 carries as the Whippets topped the Panthers. Brendon Sinsel also contributed to the rushing game with 13 yards on the ground.
John Masker put up the best numbers in passing as Kearney Catholic defeated St. Paul. He finished with 5 completions for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns. Masker's favorite target this week was Blake Holtmeier, who caught 4 passes for 66 yards.
Choquette was the best receiver in the league this week as Minden topped Fillmore Central. Choquette racked up 4 receptions for 79 yards. Sinsel helped Minden's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 20 yards.
Rutt was a passing and rushing force as Shannon Lovin's team defeated Ryan Komenda's team.
6-foot-1 quarterback Masker of the Stars is the league leader in passing yards this season with 198. He has also thrown 4 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Choquette. The Minden star has 5 catches for 132 yards.
Gothenburg and Broken Bow played the most contested game in C1 District 9 this week, with Gothenburg eventually emerging with a 3-0 victory.
