Softball Recap: Clay Extends Winning Streak to Four

Clay waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Western Indians 8-1. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by seven runs or more this season.

Laney Shepherd made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Elin Shaw was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Emma Walker, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

Clay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western only managed three hits.

Clay's victory bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Western, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Clay will head out to square off against Alexander at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.31 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Western does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
