The North East Grape Pickers will head out to take on the Corry Beavers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. North East's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Corry's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
North East's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Wednesday's struggle, when Fairview hitters got past them. The Grape Pickers came up short against the Tigers on Wednesday, falling 13-3. The Grape Pickers haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Meanwhile, while Corry put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Eisenhower. The Beavers were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Knights. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Beavers this season.
Kamdyn Moon and Tucker Jackson were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Moon struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Jackson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Moon has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Moon went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Jackson went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Moon is becoming a predictor of Corry's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-8 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Wyatt Swan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Zack Coulter was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Corry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Corry and bumps their season record up to 8-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for North East, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
North East couldn't quite finish off Corry in their previous matchup back in April and fell 2-0. Can the Grape Pickers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
