The Victoria East Titans will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Victoria West Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Victoria East is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Last Friday, Victoria East's game was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They managed a 14-10 victory over Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial.
Victoria East's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Bryson Ortega, who picked up 94 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Kason Kolle, who threw for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Victoria West pushed their score all the way to 45 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Miller. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (42), Victoria West still had to take the loss.
Despite their defeat, Victoria West saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kamauri Montgomery, who rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, was perhaps the best of all. Montgomery hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games. Camden Repper was another key contributor, throwing for 281 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt.
Victoria East's win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 King and 2-7 Ray (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36.1% over those games). As for Victoria West, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Victoria East has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 364.9 total yards per game. However, it's not like Victoria West struggles in that department as they've been even better at 438.4 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Victoria East came up short against Victoria West in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 33-23. Thankfully for Victoria East, D'andre Fillmore (who picked up 153 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
