The Concord Minutemen were the 42-7 winner over the Mt. Diablo Red Devils when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Concord suffered a rough 48-26 defeat at the hands of Mt. Diablo on Friday. Concord has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Concord lost, one person who can't be blamed is Monte Beam. Despite the final result, he rushed for 177 yards while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Beam was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Juan Gonzales was another key contributor, throwing for 192 yards and a touchdown.
Herschel Turner Jr got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 300 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries. Turner Jr hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for nine straight games. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Owens, who rushed for 102 yards on only 11 carries.
Concord's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 12.7 points per game. As for Mt. Diablo, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Concord does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mt. Diablo will head out on the road to face off against Berean Christian at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Berean Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
