The Carroll Chargers will challenge the Westfield Shamrocks at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Carroll is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Carroll is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Huntington North on Saturday. They fell 5-1 to the Vikings.

Carroll saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Sparks, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Westfield came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Royals as they made off with a 12-4 victory.

Owen Swinford looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

At the plate, Ethan Colling and Beck Jordan did most of the damage at the plate: Colling went 4-for-5 with one home run and three RBI, while Jordan went 3-for-5 with six RBI and one double. Those four hits gave Colling a new career-high. Jake Russell was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Westfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Carroll has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Westfield, their win bumped their record up to 16-8.

Carroll couldn't quite finish off Westfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 and fell 5-3. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
