Softball Recap: Hicks Wins Going Away Against Pitkin

Hicks barely beat Pitkin the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates blew past the Tigers 18-3 on Tuesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Courtlyn Dousay made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Hicks got a massive performance out of Maliah Gordy, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Gordy a new career-high. Kaydence Hickman was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

Hicks kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matches.

Hicks' record now sits at 18-5. As for Pitkin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hicks will square off against Peabody at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pitkin, they will face off against Plainview at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
