Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Providence Pioneers walked away with it. They blew past Springs Valley 41-8 at home. The victory was just business as usual for Providence, who after 12 games remain undefeated this season.
Providence had a senior duo take command as Cade Unruh gained 153 total yards and three touchdowns and Carter Lannan threw for 225 yards and four touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. Thomas Lynch was another key contributor, gaining 67 total yards and two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Springs Valley lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Larron Childers. Despite the final result, he rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Childers was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 69 yards.
Providence's win was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 12-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 10-1 Tecumseh and 8-4 Milan (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.5% over those games). As for Springs Valley, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2.
Providence will head out on the road to face off against Indianapolis Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Indianapolis Lutheran is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Springs Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
