The biggest upset of the week belonged to Woodville, who took down 523rd ranked Woodville, 51-27.
Newton extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region III District 10 this week by beating Anahuac, 41-6. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Eagles.
Newton's dynamic duo of D.J. DEAN and KEVIN SHORTER proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. DEAN threw for 83 yards and two touchdowns and SHORTER had 31 yards receiving. KEYAUN SEASTRUNK helped Newton's passing attack out by catching one ball for 31 yards.
Justin Artis was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 118 yards as Anahuac bested Anahuac. Josh Cooper also contributed to the rushing game with 48 yards on the ground.
Newton's DEAN and SHORTER have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. DEAN has thrown for 666 yards this season, while SHORTER, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has nine catches for 201 yards. Marty Murr's team's Artis leads the league in rushing yards with 1316.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region III District 10 this week will be when the Panthers take on East Chambers. As it stands, Anahuac is in sixth, while the Buccaneers are in second.
Kirbyville moved up to 553 from 657 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats were able to make move up by besting the Eagles 51-27.
