Baseball Game Preview: McCutcheon Mavericks vs. Seeger Patriots

The McCutcheon Mavericks will head out on the road to square off against the Seeger Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. McCutcheon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Seeger will be up against a hot McCutcheon squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Mavericks blew past Lebanon 11-0 on Saturday.

Jon Riley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of McCutcheon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-3 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Sam Swank was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

McCutcheon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Seeger ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past Tri-County 12-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Patriots considering their two-run performance the game before.

The team relied heavily on Jarrett Smith, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Wontor, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Seeger's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for McCutcheon, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Seeger's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: McCutcheon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317.
