The Jefferson Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 15th straight loss. They were dealt a 61-24 loss at the hands of Burbank. While losing is never fun, Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1336th, while Burbank is ranked 358th).
Destiny Duenas was Jefferson's leading scorer, having posted ten points.
Leading Burbank to victory were Zara'nique Nealy and Aubry Avila. Nealy dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while Avila scored 18 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Nealy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Savannah Botello, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Jefferson has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 18 of their last 19 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-24 record this season. As for Burbank, their victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-8.
Jefferson will take on Alamo Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Alamo Heights focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday. As for Burbank, they will head out on the road to square off against Lanier at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
