Shawnee is 8-2 against Seneca since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Renegades will face off against the Golden Eagles at 3:45 p.m.
Shawnee is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 30, 2024 on Wednesday. They came up short against Cherokee, falling 10-3. The loss continues a trend for the Renegades in their meetings with the Chiefs: they've now lost six in a row.
Chris Ahrens was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seneca). They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over Winslow Township on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Ethan Lawrence looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Seneca got a big performance out of Luke Gsell, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Gsell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Bauer, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Seneca hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.
Shawnee's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Seneca, their record now sits at 6-11.
Shawnee was able to grind out a solid win over Seneca when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Renegades since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
