The Hoehne Farmers will face off against the Las Animas Trojans at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hoehne has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Las Animas will arrive with five straight wins.
Hoehne fell victim to Fowler and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 17-0 to the Grizzlies, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Meanwhile, Las Animas beat Rocky Ford 13-9 on Friday.
Kree Wallace made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wallace was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Las Animas let Braydon Ortiz and Travis Arrona run wild. Ortiz went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Arrona went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Arrona a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jesus Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Las Animas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Ford only posted a batting average of .276.
Las Animas pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Hoehne, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hoehne has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Las Animas struggles in that department as they've averaged .487. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hoehne suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Las Animas in their previous meeting back in March. Will the Farmers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
