Notre Dame is 8-2 against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Notre Dame Jugglers will be home for the holidays to greet the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Notre Dame's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Central Valley Academy an easy 75-50 victory. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Notre Dame in their matchups with Central Valley Academy: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 83-57 loss to Holland Patent might stick with them for a while. Even though they lost, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 51.5 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Despite their defeat, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Dylan Donegan, who scored 11 points along with six assists and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The game was Donegan's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliijah Donegan, who scored 17 points.
Notre Dame bumped their record down to 0-1 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Notre Dame was able to grind out a solid win over Vernon-Verona-Sherrill when the teams last played back in January, winning 66-54. Will Notre Dame repeat their success, or does Vernon-Verona-Sherrill have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
