The South Spencer Rebels will take on the Evansville Bosse Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Spencer will be strutting in after a victory while Evansville Bosse will be coming in after a loss.
On Monday, South Spencer was able to grind out a solid win over Forest Park, taking the game 6-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rebels.
Kaylee Schmitt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Drema Howe was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Alexis Cecil also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
South Spencer hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Evansville Bosse was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 22nd straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 23-0 to Evansville Harrison.
Evansville Bosse saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chiara Nash, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
The victory got South Spencer back to even at 2-2. As for Evansville Bosse, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.
South Spencer's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Rebels have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Evansville Bosse, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will South Spencer continue to outrun the ball?
South Spencer took their win against Evansville Bosse in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 20-3 score. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
