The Loomis Wolves are taking a road trip to square off against the Archangels Catholic Defenders on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Loomis is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cambridge 66-30. The win continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.
It was another big night for Jace Schukar, who rushed for 225 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 58 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Loomis was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 388 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Another reason for the win was Loomis' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Jed Isaacson and Caden Swanson, who each picked up two sacks apiece.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Archangels Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They really took it to Weeping Water for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-20 victory. The Defenders pushed the score to 42-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Indians cut but never quite recovered from.
Loomis better keep an eye on Gavin Geilenkirchen. He was instrumental in Archangels Catholic's win, rushing for 99 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries. Ethan Wieseler got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Archangels Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Wieseler and Tanner Classen. Classen has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last three times he's played. Wieseler got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Loomis' record is now 7-2. As for Archangels Catholic, their record now sits at 8-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Loomis has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 232.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Archangels Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 234.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
