Baseball Recap: Gretna Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Gretna, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gretna East Griffins on Monday, sneaking past 7-5. This was payback for the Dragons, who suffered a 4-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Hudson Schwartzkopf looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Carson Dicken was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Gretna is undefeated when Dicken posts two or more runs, but 6-11 otherwise. Nolan Spencer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Gretna's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-11. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gretna East, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.
