The Tempe Prep Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They were dealt a 74-40 defeat at the hands of Horizon Honors. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Tempe Prep in their matchups with Horizon Honors: they've now lost nine in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Tempe Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Austin Sampson. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Sampson is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Chris Milner, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Horizon Honors' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Matthew McEnaney, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. McEnaney has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 11 times he's played. Max Gerelick was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Tempe Prep's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Horizon Honors, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.
Tempe Prep will head out on the road to square off against Sequoia Pathway Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sequoia Pathway Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Horizon Honors won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Arete Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. One thing working in Arete Prep's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
