The Bacon County Raiders pushed their score all the way to 64 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Irwin County. Even though they lost, Bacon County's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.4 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Bacon County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Xavier Harris, who scored 27 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harris has scored all season. Ke'Shawn Holmes was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Irwin County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaylen Martin out in front who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Martin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Sam Guy, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Bacon County are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8. As for Irwin County, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bacon County will take on Pelham at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Irwin County, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Brooks County at 5:00 p.m. Brooks County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.6 points per game.
