There's no place like home for the Hillsboro Trojans, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 59-49 victory over Council Grove on Tuesday. For Hillsboro, this counts as revenge for the 52-51 loss Council Grove walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Brycen Palmquist and Kolby Rose certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Palmquist scored 18 points along with four steals, while Rose scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Palmquist scored a full 36.7% of Council Grove's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyzer Spittles, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Hillsboro's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Council Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.
Hillsboro will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Trinity on January 2, 2024. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Trinity is ranked 250th, while Hillsboro is ranked 225th). Council Grove will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mission Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
