Northern had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 7-6 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Howard Lions with a sharp 11-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Danielle Sypolt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over 5.2 innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, earning three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Madison Jewett and Brooke MacAulay did most of the damage at the plate: Jewett got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while MacAulay went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Melody Russell, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Northern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
As for Howard, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since March 21st.
Like Northern, Howard also got a great game from a two-way player: Kiersten Black. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Black has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
Black wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Hadley Coleman, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs. Lauren Moore was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Coincidentally, Northern and Howard will both be playing Northeast the next time they take the field. The Lions will head out to face the Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Patriots will play them later in the day, at 2:30 p.m.
