It was a good run, but the Mater Dei Knights unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 61-39 walloping at the hands of Incarnate Word Academy.
Mater Dei's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amelia Beer, who scored 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Alyssa Koerkenmeier was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Mater Dei's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-3. As for Incarnate Word Academy, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Mater Dei will take on Belleville East at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Belleville East is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Incarnate Word Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Lutheran at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday. Lutheran is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
