Softball Recap: Sultana Drops Season-High Score on Serrano

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sultana). Everything went their way against the Serrano Diamondbacks on Tuesday as they made off with a 15-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Sultans, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Savannah Vanderpool made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in runs (two).

In other batting news, Avery Rodriguez was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Aaliyah Huizar also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Sultana kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 9-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Sultana's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Serrano, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Sultana will host Hesperia at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Sultans are facing the Scorpions at the right time seeing as the Scorpions are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Serrano, they are taking a road trip to take on Oak Hills at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
