The Encina Prep Bulldogs just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Union Mine Diamondbacks at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Encina Prep had no problem doing just that on Monday. They blew past the Scots 92-52 on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Encina Prep who now have three in a row.
Phillip Worsham continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 7 assists. He hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Sergio De La Cruz, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten assists.
Meanwhile, Union Mine had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.6 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Tuesday. They blew past Galt, posting a 92-30 win on the road. Given Union Mine's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Galt is ranked 1270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Union Mine's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nate Sweet, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 3 assists. Sweet has been hot recently, having posted 22 or more points the last seven times he's played. Damion Schade was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with four steals.
Encina Prep is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Union Mine, their victory was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 26-2.
