Basketball Recap: Dru Goldsmith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hanahan over Airport

It was a Battle of the Birds when Hanahan challenged Airport on Monday. The Hanahan Hawks fell just short of the Airport Eagles by a score of 46-44.

Hanahan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Dru Goldsmith, who posted 13 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Goldsmith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Eslava, who had 15 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Hanahan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.

Airport got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Daniel Jeffries out in front who went 8 of 19 on his way to 20 points and four steals. Those 20 points gave Jeffries a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Delreco Eady, who put up seven points along with 11 boards and four blocks.

Hanahan has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Airport, their record now sits at 4-8.

Hanahan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-33 defeat against Bishop England on the 3rd. As for Airport, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-43 loss against River Bluff on the 4th.
