Clinton-Massie is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Hillsboro is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Falcons will host the Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Clinton-Massie barely beat Goshen the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 8-2 victory on Wednesday.
Kalli Jodrey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.
At the plate, Sydney Doyle was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Izzy Penewit, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against McClain as they made off with a 10-0 win.
Camryn Spruell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Hillsboro got a massive performance out of Madison Dearmon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Isabelle Brunck was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Hillsboro hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive matches.
Clinton-Massie's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Hillsboro, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clinton-Massie has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hillsboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 12.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Clinton-Massie's way against Hillsboro in their previous meeting back in April of 2017, as Clinton-Massie made off with a 19-0 victory. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
