After flying high against the Middle Park Panthers on Saturday, the Eagle Valley Devils came back down to earth. Eagle Valley's tough 60-36 loss to Fruita Monument on Tuesday might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Eagle Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Fruita Monument is ranked 20th).
Josie Fitzsimmons was Eagle Valley's leading scorer, having posted 13 points. Fitzsimmons held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Olivia Campbell, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds for Fruita Monument. Campbell has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Addison Eyre was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Eagle Valley's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 4-5. As for Fruita Monument, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eagle Valley will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off.
