The Fort Collins Lambkins will head out on the road to take on the Poudre Impalas at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fort Collins is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Poudre in Colorado (Fort Collins is ranked 16th, while Poudre is ranked 67th).
After a string of four wins, Fort Collins' good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Horizon. The defeat was just more heartbreak for Fort Collins, who fell 49-47 when the teams last met back in January of 2022.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Avery Alcaraz, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Claire Wagstaff was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Poudre was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 40-34 to Legacy. It was the first time this season that Poudre let down their fans at home.
Like Fort Collins, Poudre lost despite seeing results from several players. Hailey Brewster led the charge by scoring eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kavi Voglund, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Fort Collins' defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Poudre, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-9.
Fort Collins came up short against Poudre in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 38-28. Can Fort Collins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
