Albert Lea and Red Wing are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Tigers will square off against the Wingers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Albert Lea will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Albert Lea will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Faribault, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 10-0 win on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Makenzie Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Hannah Schuhmacher was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Nevaeh Wachols was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Albert Lea always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Red Wing's offense. They came up short against Winona on Tuesday, falling 7-0. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Albert Lea's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Red Wing, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Albert Lea came out on top in a nail-biter against Red Wing in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
