Given Fortune Early College's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 512th, while John Adams Academy is ranked 1091st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fortune Early College was led to victory by Omarion Davis and Darien Taubodo. Davis scored 18 points, while Taubodo scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taubodo has scored all season. Elijah Thompson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Despite the loss, John Adams Academy had strong showings from Isaiah McKee, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Josh Harris, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor McCoy, who scored six points along with five steals.
Fortune Early College is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. As for John Adams Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6.
Fortune Early College will take on Westlake Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Westlake Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Wednesday. John Adams Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Pine Hills Adventist at 6:30 p.m. on January 10th. Pine Hills Adventist is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
