The Cumberland Valley Eagles had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 33-20 win over Altoona. Cumberland Valley pushed the score to 33-13 by the end of the third, a deficit Altoona cut but never quite recovered from.
Bryce Staretz was his usual excellent self, rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Staretz hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Shepley, who threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.
When it comes to explaining why Altoona lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bron Mosley. Despite the final result, he rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
Cumberland Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Altoona, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-6.
Cumberland Valley will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Wilson at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Wilson will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Altoona, they will head out on the road to face off against Mifflin County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
