With the playoffs underway, it shouldn't be a shocker to learn that this has been a helter-skelter week in the power rankings. We'll tackle all that (plus a new number one team) in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Yorktown got a 34 - 19 win over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Brett Makar. Makar ran for 227 yards and also punched in one touchdown. In fact, our algorithms singled out Makar as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
Movin on Up
Pleasantville gave both Glens Falls and its quarterback (sacked eight times) a rough time last week. Pleasantville came out on top against Glens Falls with a 20 - 7 win. Pleasantville had two big standouts, as senior Charlie Mcphee picked up 197 yards on the ground, while junior Jack Howe earned one touchdown and 113 yards rushing the ball. Pleasantville's success was rewarded with a nine boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Lindenhurst (13th in the power rankings) and Oceanside (9th). Both teams are rolling into the game after last-week wins. Both the Lindenhurst and Oceanside defenses have allowed few points this year (averaging 8.25 ppg and 12 ppg, respectively), so the teams might find scoring more difficult than usual this week.
