Basketball Game Preview: Thomas Jefferson Spartans vs. Golden Demons

The Thomas Jefferson Spartans just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Golden Demons at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Thomas Jefferson is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against George Washington on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Thomas Jefferson was beaten by George Washington 60-32. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-13.

The losing side was boosted by Leila Olbricht-Simon, who posted eight points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Anisa Adrovic, who earned nine points.

Even though they lost, Thomas Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Golden got the win against Summit on Thursday by a conclusive 59-37. The Demons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 22 points or more this season.

Thomas Jefferson better focus on containing Ashlyn Bates and Kempley Wellman as the pair were huge in Golden's win. Bates went 5 for 12 en route to 16 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Wellman went 5 of 11 on her way to 16 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklynn Carbone, who scored five points and six boards.

Golden pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 26.9 points. As for Thomas Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
