Leadership Academy is 1-9 against Cornerstone Charter since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Leadership Academy Falcons will head out to take on the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Leadership Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.8 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Leadership Academy and Bethany Community, and Bethany Community kept the tradition alive. Leadership Academy fell just short of Bethany Community by a score of 11-9 on Friday.
Dillon Ketron was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ketron was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jafet Rodriguez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Clay Smith, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Cornerstone Charter fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Gilman on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Greyhounds by a score of 5-4. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Like Leadership Academy, Cornerstone Charter also got a great game from a two-way player: Dylan Anderson. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Anderson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Anderson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Barbee, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
This is the second loss in a row for Cornerstone Charter and nudges their season record down to 5-2. As for Leadership Academy, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Leadership Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cornerstone Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Leadership Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Cornerstone Charter when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Does Leadership Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cornerstone Charter turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
