Having just played yesterday, the Sugar Creek Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Garinger Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Garinger took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Sugar Creek, who comes in off a win.
On Thursday, everything came up roses for Sugar Creek on the road against Apprentice Academy as the team secured a 89-30 victory. The victory was just what Sugar Creek needed coming off of a 78-41 defeat in their prior contest.
Sugar Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aidan Gatewood, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Elijah McCrey was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Garinger's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight defeat. They were dealt a 69-18 loss at the hands of Charlotte Catholic. While losing is never fun, Garinger can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 530th, while Charlotte Catholic is ranked 75th).
Malik McClendon was Garinger's leading scorer, having posted seven points.
Coby Speed held things down on the boards with four rebounds.
Sugar Creek's win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Garinger, they dropped their record down to 1-19 with that defeat, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Sugar Creek against Garinger when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 69-41 win. Will Sugar Creek repeat their success, or does Garinger have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
