The Reed City Coyotes will head out to challenge the Pine River Area Bucks at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Reed City has given up an average of 10.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Reed City fell victim to Coleman and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 16-0 to the Comets. The match marked the first time this year in which the Coyotes were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, Pine River Area came tearing into Thursday's contest with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Trojans as they made off with an 18-2 victory. The Bucks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 games by seven runs or more this season.
Sadler Mumby was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Kylee Mumby was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Mary Nichols, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Pine River Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake City only posted an OBP of .364.
Pine River Area pushed their record up to 23-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Reed City, their loss dropped their record down to 4-18.
Everything went Reed City's way against Pine River Area in their previous matchup back in June of 2016, as Reed City made off with a 13-2 win. Do the Coyotes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bucks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
