Kankakee Valley and Hobart are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Kougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Brickies at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kankakee Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Hobart is facing Kankakee Valley at the wrong time: Kankakee Valley suffered their first home loss of the season on Tuesday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 5-4. The Kougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kankakee Valley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Hanger, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hobart). They blew past Merrillville 21-3 on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Brickies with their most commanding win of the season.
Hobart also got a great performance from Allie Snider as she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Snider a new career-high in strikeouts (three).
At the plate, Addi Gaffin was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kylie Bulatovich, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Hobart kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merrillville only managed eight hits.
The victory got Hobart back to even at 5-5. As for Kankakee Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Hobart's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Kankakee Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Hobart, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.8 strikeouts. Will Kankakee Valley keep running through batters, or will the Brickies buck the trend?
Everything went Kankakee Valley's way against Hobart when the teams last played on April 10th, as Kankakee Valley made off with an 11-4 win. Will the Kougars repeat their success, or do the Brickies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
