V Section II recap Oct. 30, 2012
Tempe Prep scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Northwest Christian, 21-20. At the time, the Crusaders were ranked 24th in the state, while the Knights were 67th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Tempe Prep, who took down 24th ranked Northwest Christian, 21-20. Forest Redlin threw for 65 yards and ran for 32 yards in the win.
Arizona Lutheran Academy's dynamic duo of Tyler Koehler and Alfred Erives proved tough for Valley Christian to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Koehler threw for 423 yards and four touchdowns and Erives had 217 yards receiving. Ben Bernthal helped Arizona Lutheran Academy's passing attack out by catching five balls for 171 yards.
Levi Hartzler made the biggest impact on defense this week as Thomas Brittain's team beat Dave Inness' team. The 5-foot-11 senior recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
Scottie Jordan was the most productive running back in V Section II this week. In 16 carries, he ran for 318 yards as Phoenix Christian defeated the Trojans. Teammate John Debus added to the ground attack by rushing for 87 yards.
The Cougars' Debus and Jordan Leary have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Debus has thrown for 2043 yards this season, while Leary has 38 catches for 767 yards. Arizona Lutheran Academy's Erives leads the league in rushing yards with 1928.
Yuma Catholic extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating San Tan Foothills, 49-8. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Shamrocks.
