Softball Recap: Santo Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Santo waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Stephenville FAITH Knights as they made off with a 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Maddie Koonce was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kamryn Castillo was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Myranda Cain, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Santo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They are 7-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Santo's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Stephenville FAITH, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Santo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Stephenville FAITH, they will square off against Texas Wind at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Stephenville FAITH's pitchers better be ready for this one: Texas Wind has averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
