In what's become a running theme this season, the Monterey Trail Mustangs gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They put the hurt on Burbank with a sharp 86-65 victory. Given Monterey Trail's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Burbank is ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Monterey Trail's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kentrell Kelly led the charge by scoring 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Damian Mcalister was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Burbank lost, one person who can't be blamed is Michael Butcher. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Butcher is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cedric Sydnor, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Monterey Trail's win bumped their record up to 25-3. As for Burbank, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-9.
Monterey Trail does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Burbank, they will head out on the road to take on Rio Americano at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burbank has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 264 points over their last four matches.
