Gilmour Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Hawken Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hawken took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Gilmour Academy, who comes in off a win.
On Thursday, Gilmour Academy beat Richmond Heights 54-42. Given Gilmour Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Richmond Heights is ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Hawken came up short against West Geauga on Wednesday and fell 41-33. Hawken has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Hawken saw an underclassman step up: Julia Scales dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 57.6% of Hawken's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sarah Liu was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Even though they lost, Hawken smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Gilmour Academy's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Hawken, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.
Gilmour Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Hawken in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, winning 57-44. Will Gilmour Academy repeat their success, or does Hawken have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
