The Lake Placid Dragons will head out to challenge the Winter Haven Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Lake Placid turned things around against Avon Park on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Red Devils.
Lake Placid saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Andrews, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lake Placid kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Winter Haven made sure to put some runs up on the board against Ridge Community on Friday. The Blue Devils never let the Bolts get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Bolts recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Jacob Setien made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Setien was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Jenkins, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Horbett, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Lake Placid's record is now 9-10. As for Winter Haven, their record now sits at 15-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lake Placid has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Winter Haven struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lake Placid came up short against Winter Haven in their previous meeting back in February of 2025, falling 6-2. Can the Dragons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
