Bronson is 0-10 against Chiefland since February of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Eagles will square off against the Indians at 7:00 p.m. Bronson has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Friday, Bronson didn't have quite enough to beat Crescent City and fell 13-12.
Zach McClelland stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Cooper Howard was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, Chiefland entered their tilt with Dixie County on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bears, sneaking past 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted against the Bears since February 23, 2021.
Garrett Byrd made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Chiefland is 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-8 otherwise. Byrd was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Osten Jones was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Brown, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Chiefland pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bronson, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.
Bronson suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Chiefland in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
