South Garner has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Southeast Raleigh Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (South Garner is ranked 95th, while Southeast Raleigh is ranked 117th).
Last Monday, South Garner strolled past Fuquay - Varina with points to spare, taking the game 31-14.
South Garner's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Johnson Jr, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Zyier Hines did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 130 receiving yards.
South Garner's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Ebenezer Ewatade and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Southeast Raleigh had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 victory over Corinth Holders on Friday. The win was just what Southeast Raleigh needed coming off of a 51-6 defeat in their prior match.
South Garner is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Southeast Raleigh, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
South Garner strolled past Southeast Raleigh when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a score of 32-16. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Garner since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
