South Portland dropped their record down to 11-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Scarborough Red Storm. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red Riots of the 5-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
South Portland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Zaccaria, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
As for Scarborough, their win was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games.
On Scarborough's side, Ryan Shugars made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Back at the plate, Finn Coburn and Matthew Fallona did most of the damage at the plate: Coburn went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Fallona went 2-for-5 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those two doubles gave Coburn a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kam Duggan, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.
